Our story.
Built from the field up.
The Ìṣẹ́yà Foundation began with a simple observation: children in Ogun State had talent, hunger, and hope — but no structure. No league. No trained coaches. No health screenings. No pathway. This is the story of how we started to build one.
It did not start with a grand plan. It started with a small group of people in Ogun State watching children play football on borrowed fields with borrowed balls — and recognising something nobody else was naming.
These children were not just playing. They were learning. Discipline. Teamwork. Resilience. But without structure, that learning had nowhere to go. The most talented ones would fade. The others would simply stop playing.
A child who is given structure will build a future. A child who is not will build whatever they can with what's left.
We started with one field, one ball, and a borrowed whistle. Then we added a league — with registered teams, trained coaches, and certified referees. Then we added health screenings, because a child who is sick cannot play. Then we added education, because football is only part of the future we are building for them.
Today the foundation runs across Ogun State — with communities registered, coaches trained, matches played, and children screened. Every step of it recorded. Every naira accounted for. Every match OGSFA-compliant.
Football. Health. Education.
Each pillar supports the other. Take any one away and the foundation loses its balance.
Structured football for every child.
Registered teams. Trained coaches. Certified referees. A league with published standings, recorded fixtures, and every match OGSFA-compliant — from ambulance to security to first aid.
Free health screenings. Every community.
Malaria tests. Deworming. Blood pressure. Vision. Available at every community we serve, with referral support to local hospitals when treatment is needed.
Academic excellence and debate.
Interschool debate season. Life skills badges. Recognition for students who excel in the classroom. Football is the entry point — not the finish line.
How we grew.
The idea
A small group of people in Ogun State begin meeting to discuss how to build structured youth sport. No funds. No organisation. Just a decision to start.
First visits
Community visits begin. CDA leaders are approached. The first pitches are inspected. The first coaches are interviewed. The foundation takes shape.
First season
First full football season opens. First free health screenings held. First interschool debate season launches. First sponsors join. The digital foundation management system goes live.
Growth
Expand to more communities across Ogun State. Add girls' divisions at every age bracket. Grow the debate program to every secondary school in our catchment.
We are building an institution. Not a project.
Every match recorded
Fixtures, results, compliance, injuries, cards — everything is logged and available for verification by OGSFA.
Health is not optional
Every player is screened. Every community hosts screenings. Referrals to hospitals are tracked to completion.
Education comes first
Training schedules adjust around exam periods. Debate season runs alongside football. Academic excellence is celebrated as loudly as goals.
No agents. No fees.
We never charge a registration fee. We never work through intermediaries. If anyone asks you for money on our behalf, they are not us.
Child protection is non-negotiable
Background checks on all coaches. Two-adult rule at every session. Zero tolerance for abuse. Every report acted upon.
Fully transparent
Our donors page lists who gave what. Our programs page shows live standings. Our standards page shows exactly what we commit to.
Why Ìṣẹ́yà?
Ìṣẹ́yà is a Yoruba word. It means work — but not just any work. It is the work that beckons. The work that calls to you. The work that must be answered.
We chose it because that is what this foundation is. A call. A call from the communities we serve. A call from the children we work with. A call from the future we are building together.
Work beckons. And we answer together.
The work continues.
This season
Where we're going
Work beckons.
We answer together.
Whether you're a parent, a community leader, a coach, or a donor — there is a place for you in this work.
